"Statue Of The Adan People, Togo"
Statue representing a standing male figure. The construction, based on a cylinder, alternates angular and round shapes. This statue is marked by its red and white two-tone, separating the figure in two from top to bottom in a non-symmetrical manner. The red arm was carved with the statue while the white was added. These statuettes, for domestic use, were placed on family altars. The figure presented here could be "Agevi," the spirit of a great hunter (missing a limb) who symbolizes mysticism.
Note the traces of offerings on the top of the head.
The cult of these statues may be associated with voodoo worship.
