Pipe Stove – Mississippian Culture, Usa
This ritual pipe bowl, carved in the round from polished stone, takes the stylized form of a waterbird, most likely a spotted duck (Aix sponsa), recognizable by the distinctive crest extending from the back of its head.
The carving is clearly very old, most likely dating from the early 19th century.
