Stone Pipe Stove – Hopewell And Woodland Cultures, Usa
From Scioto County, Ohio (as indicated by the inscription on an old label “Scioto Co. Ohio”)
This pipe bowl depicts a bird with a long neck bent backward and a streamlined beak forming the tip of the object. It is rendered in a geometric, simplified style, accentuated by fine linear incisions.
The carving is clearly very old, most likely from the 18th or early 19th century.
