Tobacco Mortar, Luluwa People, Drc
A tobacco or hemp mortar depicting a female figure with bent legs and hands behind her ears. The sex is indicated by an incision that continues to form the buttocks. The face is delicate with pleasing relief. The head is hollowed out, and this cavity served as a tobacco or hemp mortar. The lid is still present. It is made from a piece of gourd and is attached to the statuette by a thin leather thong. It is a very attractive everyday object.
