Dogon Statuette - Tellem / Mali - XIXth Century
Natives of Mali, the Tellem are a people who lived in the heart of the Bandiagara cliff, in troglodyte dwellings, in what would later become the Dogon Country. Tellem statuary is marked by strong aesthetic characteristics. We find one or two arms raised towards the sky, bodies with a fine and elongated physiognomy, as on this statuette. A beautiful patina in orange hues runs through this object, ribbed in the vertical direction by a crack that takes nothing away from the charm of this piece.
