Large Outdoor Patina Maternity Statue Sunda Islands Indonesia
Large statue of a protective ancestor, it is a maternity with hands clasped on the belly, Sunda Islands, Indonesia. These statues were planted at the entrance to villages or houses for protection and this one particularly for pregnant women or young mothers, it also has a significant faded, cracked and rutted patina which testifies to its long stay outdoors. Total height with the base 92 cm, end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th, former collection of Nina Wolmark, French author, screenwriter and dialogist. Collected on site by herself and her husband in the 1980s.
