A Pair Of Jansen Mahogany Armchairs, One Of Which Bears The Hallmark Of The Famous Design House

Artist: Maison Jansen
Pair of Jansen mahogany armchairs; one of the two bears the stamp of the famous design house beneath the back rail. 1960s.
Pair of mahogany armchairs with molded details in the neoclassical style, featuring flat rectangular backs topped with a sphere, cuffed armrests, and turned wooden armrest supports finished with a ball, the tapered front legs connected to the apron by a connecting block adorned with bronze squares, the rear legs in a saber shape. The set rests on gilded bronze feet. Original raspberry-red leather upholstery with studs.
France, 1960s.
In very good condition, both the wood and the upholstery. Select pieces. All that’s left is to place them in your home!

The Parisian design firm Maison Jansen was one of the most renowned and influential interior design firms of the 20th century, patronized by monarchies, heads of state, and members of high society. It was also one of the first truly international design firms.
An impressive array of clients commissioned work from Maison Jansen, including King William III of the Netherlands, Alfonso XII of Spain, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, King Leopold II of Belgium, the Shah of Iran, oil magnate Charles Bierer Wrightsman, Leeds Castle, the Hotel Parr in Vienna, the Reichsbank, the Rockefellers, Coco Chanel, Elsie de Wolfe, and the Kennedys, among many others.
Founded in 1880 by Dutch designer Jean-Henri Jansen (1854–1928), it closed its doors in 1989, sixty years after its founder’s death. Today, Maison Jansen’s creations are highly sought after by collectors and fetch substantial prices.
