Comfortable Armchair In Mahogany And Blackened Wood With Griffin-shaped Armrests
A rare, spectacular and comfortable armchair in mahogany and ebonized wood, inlaid with ebony scrolls and palmettes, featuring a scrolled back, armrests with palmette-decorated cuffs, and consoles in the form of griffins. It rests on four cabriole legs with casters.
This armchair, which has all the hallmarks of a ceremonial seat, is a characteristic example of the late Empire period—notably through the use of griffins as arm supports and even within the scrolled backrest—and of the early Restoration, particularly with its console-shaped front legs.
First quarter of the 19th century.
Good used condition.
