Rare Armenian prayer book printed in 1831, preserved in its original binding covered in wine-colored silk and richly adorned with embossed silver plates.

Description

The front cover features a remarkable symbolic composition depicting the Passion of Christ: a radiant cross, the instruments of the Passion, and finely chased liturgical ornaments. The back cover is decorated with the Sacred Heart surmounted by the Cross, surrounded by the crown of thorns and a palm branch, all set within a Baroque-inspired architectural frame featuring twisted columns.

The volume is printed in the Armenian alphabet, with an engraved frontispiece and a title page dated 1831.
It comprises approximately 260 pages and retains its gilt edges.

The decorative elements on the binding have been tested for silver, confirming that they are solid silver plates. This goldsmith’s binding lends the volume a particularly refined and sophisticated character.

Condition

Condition consistent with its age: normal wear on the silk of the binding, small losses on the cap ends, a few scattered foxing spots and moisture stains, none of which detract from the appeal of this beautiful piece.
