This large 19th-century reliquary frame presents an exceptionally rich devotional composition, created according to the convent tradition of paper filigree. The whole unfolds against a deep red velvet background entirely enlivened with scrolls, rosettes, and floral motifs in gilded rolled paper, executed with remarkable precision.
Description:
The center features a glazed octagonal medallion containing a miniature painted landscape scene, surrounded by a circle of secondary relics. Around this, a radiating arrangement brings together 35 relics of saints, each preserved under glass in gilded frames, accompanied by its handwritten inscription.
The variety of saints represented—martyrs, virgins, and the center of devotion—testifies to a dense and carefully structured spiritual program.
The old handwritten note preserved on the reverse confirms the presence of the relics, enhancing the documentary and collector's interest of this piece.
The abundance of individual reliquaries, combined with the exquisite paper filigree decoration, creates a visually spectacular work typical of high-level devotional pieces intended for private use.
The entire piece is presented in a large, carved and gilded wooden frame with rocaille decoration, perfectly complementing the rich interior.
Dimensions: Height: 62 cm x Width: 52 cm.
