An elegant Louis XVI period portico clock in white marble and gilt bronze, adorned with blue biscuit medallions in the Wedgwood taste. Its refined architectural design, inspired by Classical Antiquity, perfectly embodies the neoclassical aesthetic that flourished in France during the final decades of the eighteenth century.

The clock stands on a rectangular marble base enhanced with a delicate gilt bronze beaded frieze. Two slender uprights support the suspended movement, a characteristic feature of the finest portico clocks of the period. Each pilaster is decorated with finely chased gilt bronze mounts and blue medallions depicting classical motifs, recalling the celebrated productions of the Wedgwood manufactory, highly fashionable throughout Europe at the time.

The white enamel dial, signed “Rouvière à Paris”, features elegant numerals and finely pierced gilt hands. The movement is suspended beneath a covered urn in marble and gilt bronze, while an intricate gilt bronze vine and grape motif frames the pendulum, itself centred by a matching blue classical medallion.

The harmonious combination of marble, gilt bronze and Wedgwood-inspired medallions gives this clock a remarkable elegance and decorative presence.
