A charming and refined 17th-century painting from the Antwerp School depicting the Madonna and Child set within an abundant floral garland.

This composition belongs to the great Flemish tradition of devotional garland paintings, a particularly sophisticated genre developed in Antwerp in the early 17th century, in the circle of masters such as Jan Brueghel the Elder and Daniel Seghers, and more broadly within the artistic environment shaped by Rubens. These works, in which a sacred image is framed by a luxuriant wreath of flowers, combine painterly virtuosity, decorative richness, and symbolic depth.

The garland displays a remarkable botanical diversity. One can identify flamed tulips, roses, anemones, carnations, narcissi, stylised lilies, as well as dense foliage.
