18th Century Brass Bed Warmer With Pierced Heart Motifs And Bird Decoration, France
A particularly refined 18th century brass bed warmer, richly decorated with pierced and repoussé ornamentation.
At its centre, a bird with outstretched wings is set within a circular medallion, surrounded by an abundant decor of scrolling foliage and floral motifs. The composition is punctuated by a series of heart-shaped piercings, both decorative and symbolic, adding lightness and rhythm to the overall design.
The quality of execution is remarkable: crisp relief work, precise detailing, and a well-balanced composition. The outer rim is enhanced with a regular border, while the turned wooden handle is secured with a brass mount.
The piece features a hinged construction allowing the pan to tilt to approximately 90 degrees, a practical feature facilitating its original use.
Originally intended for warming beds by holding embers, this object has today become a highly decorative wall piece, almost sculptural in its presence.
Gallery viewA particularly appealing example, distinguished by the richness of its decoration.
The central motif, almost heraldic in spirit, combined with the pierced heart pattern, gives the piece both warmth and strong visual presence.
A functional object elevated into a true decorative statement.
