Marquetry Vanity Table – Napoleon III Period, 19th Century
Marquetry Vanity Table – Napoleon III Period, 19th Century
Charming small marquetry vanity table, French work from the second half of the 19th century, Napoleon III period.
The piece features an elegant curved silhouette inspired by the Louis XV style, with cabriole legs and fluid lines typical of the period. It is entirely veneered with a refined geometric marquetry known as “cube” or trompe-l’œil marquetry, particularly well preserved and visually striking.
The shaped top, framed with a gilt bronze gallery, opens to reveal a fitted interior with an original mirror and storage compartment. A drawer on the front further enhances both the functionality and balance of the piece.
The finely chased gilt bronze mounts elegantly highlight the structure and reflect the richness and decorative taste characteristic of Napoleon III production.
Condition:
Very good overall condition. Marquetry well preserved. Please note: key missing.
Gallery’s View:
A highly charming piece, perfectly representative of the Napoleon III taste for reinterpretations of 18th-century styles. Its compact size makes it ideal as a side table or occasional vanity, while the cube marquetry gives it a strong decorative presence.
