Puiforcat & Cailar Bayard: Silver-plated Asparagus Serving Dish And Tongs, St. Louis XVI Style
A stunning pairing of an asparagus dish by silversmith Cailar Bayard and a silver-plated serving tongs by silversmith Puiforcat, in the Louis XVI style.
The dish is decorated around the rim with a wide frieze of laurel leaves punctuated by acanthus leaf motifs. The removable liner is fluted to allow residual cooking water to drain.
The asparagus tongs are decorated with crossed ribbons.
The dish is hallmarked:
. 28 for the silver fineness
. Square CB silversmith’s mark for Cailar Bayard
. “Cailar Bayard” in full
The tongs are hallmarked:
. Square silversmith’s hallmark “EP” with a penknife for the Puiforcat company
A very beautiful, cohesive set in the Louis XVI style that works well together despite being crafted by two different silversmiths.
33.5 x 25.5 cm for the platter
10 cm long for the tongs
1525 grams for the set.
Very good condition. Minor scratches from use. Slight warping at the “corners” of the tongs.
