A solid silver mustard pot, Louis XVI period.
The body is pierced with a decoration of floral garlands and fruit. In the center, a blank cartouche is supported by two cupids. It rests on three hoof feet.
With its original blue glass insert. Stamped silver technique.
Weight: 216 gross. Very well hallmarked.
PARIS, 1786.
Silversmith: Charles GRIMPRELLE.
Hallmarks under the lid and under the body + discharge mark on the outer lid. A small part of the garland is missing to the left of the handle (see photo).
Note: Henri Nocq states that he only saw this silversmith's hallmark once, on a repoussé mustard pot. Perhaps this one? Source: "Le poinçon de Paris" pp. 279 and 280. See photo.
