An exceptional solid silver skewer or pick dating from the reign of Louis Philippe.
The hunting-themed handle is in the form of a rocaille cartouche bordered by foliate scrolls and surmounted by a rocaille shell motif.
In the center, against a vine background, an oval medallion depicts a hunting dog resembling an English pointer.
The reverse features another oval medallion, left blank.
The skewer is hallmarked:
Minerva 1st standard pre-1973 for 950/1000 silver
Maker's mark: Veyrat in full, Jean-François Veyrat, active from 1831 to 1840
A very rare skewer with this wide, highly decorative handle dating from the reign of King Louis-Philippe. It is rare to find picks with such decoration, especially dating from the first half of the 19th century.
