Superb solid silver firelighter, entirely guilloché-engraved.
The firelighter is rectangular with an oval cross-section.
The body is entirely guilloché-engraved with an eclectic design of Gothic arches, rocaille curves and counter-curves, and Louis XVI-style floral bouquets.
The lid, also guilloché-engraved, fits onto the body.
The steel base is shaped like a scraper.
It is hallmarked:
. Minerva 1st standard mark, pre-1973, for 950/1000 silver
. A barely legible maker's mark, to be identified: possibly CJ (?) with a central motif above a heart and surmounted by a crescent.
A very beautiful piece characterized by the complete guilloché engraving of its surface.
