Louis XVI Bronze Clock, 19th Century

Louis XVI style gilt bronze pendulum - Epoque XIXᵉ siècle

Elegant Louis XVI-style mantel clock in finely chased and richly gilded bronze, made in the taste of French productions from the second half of the XIXᵉ century.
This piece captivates with its balanced proportions, the quality of its neoclassical decor and its important decorative presence.

The circular white enamel dial features Roman numerals for the hours and a peripheral minute graduation in Arabic numerals. It is embellished with beautifully crafted gilt bronze openwork hands. The front is framed by a finely sculpted frieze of pearls and acanthus leaves.

.

The body of the clock adopts an architectural form inspired by Antiquity, resting on a moving base adorned with gadroons, scrolls and floral motifs.
The side jambs are enriched with garlands and stylized roses characteristic of the Louis XVI decorative vocabulary.

The crown is particularly noteworthy: it features a covered vase decorated with garlands and roses, framed by two arms forming lateral supports, evoking neoclassical clocks inspired by late XVIIIᵉ century models.

The key-wound mechanical movement is visible at the back.
It is equipped with a gong strike and retains its original key. The mechanism bears the number 1420, visible on the back plate.
