Cartonnier Louis XV Clock, 18th Century
Important and Rare Cartonnier à Pendule , Epoque XVIIIe Siècle .
Rare and remarkable cartonnier forming a storage cabinet with integrated clock, French work of the XVIIIᵉ century period, of very fine workmanship.
This piece of ceremonial furniture features an elegantly curved, flowing silhouette characteristic of the Louis XV rocaille taste, with a particularly refined scalloped line.
The upper part accommodates an integrated clock with an enamelled dial with blue Roman numerals, set in a rich finely chased gilt bronze frame with foliage and scroll decor.
The case is crafted in precious wood veneer , in Satiné and Prunier , violet wood and amaranth , laid out in butterfly-wing and herringbone frieze marquetry, offering beautiful reflections and a warm mahogany-red-brown patina.
The ornamentation is particularly meticulous, with numerous original gilded bronzes: corner falls, clasps, sabots, molded frames, rocaille scrolls and foliate motifs, elegantly emphasizing the overall structure.
The front opens with a curved glass door, revealing an interior fitted with five scrolled shelves/filing bins, highlighted with gilded Bronze finish, originally intended for storing cardboard, papers or sheet music, making it a piece of furniture as decorative as it is functional.
The door retains its Lock with its original Bronze Key .
The clock movement, housed in the upper part, is accessible through an independent glass door, allowing access to the mechanism for winding and maintenance.
the movement is more recent and it
works .. it rings .
it lacks a little enamel on some of the numerals .
The sides, also curved, are richly plated and adorned with reserves highlighted with gilt bronze fillets, testifying to particularly luxurious workmanship on all sides, allowing for a mid-piece presentation.
