Large Charles X period lyre clock under globe
France, circa 1825-1835

Elegant and refined lyre-shaped clock, emblematic of the Charles X taste, in flamed mahogany veneer and rich ornamentation of finely chased bronze gilded with mercury.
The set is presented under its important antique blown glass globe resting on a black molded base.

The white enamelled circular dial with black Roman numerals is set in a sumptuous gilt bronze frame with foliate frieze decoration.
The movement is surmounted by a radiant female mask framed by neoclassical-inspired foliage and floral motifs.

The case adopts the shape of an antique lyre, symbol of the arts and harmony, adorned with garlands of laurel, palmettes and rosettes in gilded bronze of great finesse of execution.
The five central metal strings recall the musical instrument and underline the elegant balance of the composition.
The architectural base features a rich applied decoration of florets, acanthus leaves and rosettes, resting on four small circular ormolu feet.

Broco mechanical movement.
Very fine quality of chasing and gilding, typical of Parisian Restoration productions.

The ensemble exudes a sense of elegance.

The ensemble exudes great decorative presence while retaining the sober elegance typical of the Charles X style.
