Menpo Samurai Mask - Shita Bō, Kuro Nuri

Menpo - Shita bō, kuro nuri

Mempo face mask in the me no shita bō style, Edo period (1603 - 1868)

In the usual design with a removable nose piece, the surface is painted with black kuro nuri lacquer, the back of the mask is painted vermilion red. With shiwa wrinkles and a wick made of animal hair and hooks (kagi) for fixing the helmet chin strap (kabutō no ō). The exposed stylized teeth of the open mouth of the mask are gold in color. The four-piece tare throat protection is in the kiritsuke style. This is a very characteristic variant of the face mask in very good condition.
