Samurai Menpo Mask - Iwai
Iwai school, Edo period (1603 - 1868)
In the usual me no shita bō design with a removable nose, an unvarnished surface with artificially cultivated rust (sabiji) and characteristic parallel decorative yasuri grooves. Instead of the frequent beard and moustache, there is only a small one stream hint of it made of yak fur on the chin of the mask, the four-part tare is fluted and varnished black. The inner side of the mask body is varnished in the usual way in red collor urushi lacquer.
On the cheeks part there are two opposing kagi hooks for lacing the kabutó no ó cord, which serves as a helmet chin strap.
