Reliquary Marie De l'Incarnation (1566-1618) 4 Relics Authenticated 1901 Versailles Pontoise
Rare and important devotional reliquary dedicated to Blessed Marie de l'Incarnation (1566-1618), born Barbe Jeanne Avrillot, known as Barbe Acarie, a great French mystical figure and introducer in France of the Order of Discalced Carmelites.
After the death of her husband, she entered Carmel under the name of Marie de l'Incarnation. Recognized as the first officially acknowledged French stigmatist, she was beatified in 1791 by Pope Pius VI. Her feast day is April 18.
This large (7 x 9.8 cm excluding bélière), gilded brass, oval-shaped reliquary contains four relics of the Blessed:
- fragment of flesh,
- fragment of robe,
- fragment of veil,
- shroud fragment.
The relics, each approx. 5 mm in size, are arranged in the center of a delicate decor of paperoles.
The reverse is fully enclosed and sealed with a large red wax seal bearing the arms of the Bishop of Versailles Pierre-Antoine-Paul Goux (1824-1904), guaranteeing the integrity of the reliquary.
The object is accompanied by its authentic certificate dated August 2, 1901, bearing the embossed seal of the Bishop of Versailles and stating in Latin:
." Particulas e carnibus, e veste, e velo, e linteaminibusque Beata Mariae Ab Incarnatione, ordinis carmelitarium (Pontisae)"
that is:
"Pieces of flesh, dress, veil and shroud of the Blessed Marie de l'Incarnation, Carmelite sister (in Pontoise)."
