Superb ecu d'or à la couronne struck during the reign of Charles VI, King of France (1380-1422), an emblematic witness to medieval royal coinage.

The obverse features the arms of the Kingdom of France, adorned with the three fleurs-de-lys, surmounted by a crown strongly asserting the royal character of this issue. The circular legend reads KAROLUS DEI GRACIA FRANCORUM REX (Charles, King of France by the grace of God).

The reverse is decorated with an elegant fleur-de-lys and foliate cross inscribed within a quatrefoil, cantoned by four crowns. The legend: XPC VINCIT XPC REGNAT XPC IMPERAT (Christ vanquishes, Christ reigns, Christ commands) reinforces the sacred dimension of royal power.
