Devotional reliquary - Relic of the True Cross - 18th century - Italy

Gilded brass oval reliquary, presenting in its center a relic of the True Cross (Ex Ligno Sanctae Crucis).

Description

The relic is set against a red textile background, embellished with radiating motifs in gilded paperolles and threads, in a composition typical of late Baroque piety.

The set is protected by antique glass, set in a crenellated rim mount.

The reverse is closed , held by threads, still sealed with an armorial red wax seal, guaranteeing the relic's integrity

Condition:

Good overall condition. Normal wear, old glass with traces and opacities, consistent with age. Seal present and intact.

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
