"Reliquary Of Saint Prosper - Early 19th Century"
Our lovely reliquary frame in bright colors, circa 1800, is made of carved and gilded wood with a rich decoration of clasps, palmettes and acanthus leaves. It houses in a central medallion, a tender gouache representing Christ with a reed. Crowned with thorns and surrounded by a halo, he is in fact holding a reed, the same reed with which the soldiers had made a paltry scepter for the King of the Jews and with which they struck him.
At the base are relics of Saint Prosper, of whom Prosper liked to write "We believe that every man is a weak reed" ... Dimensions of 39 cm by 25 cm
Very good condition.
