Interesting painting dated 1882 depicting a seascape with a few boats in the port of Le Havre..The work is dedicated to "Monsieur G.Fromageot, sauf votre' respect, souvenir amical" and signed by the painter Arthur Louis Soclet (1845-1900): this is an artist to whom the Bénézit devotes a chapter and whose information can be found on the web:although a native of Paris, he was in the second half of the 19th century a major figure in the French art scene. a native of Paris, in the second half of the 19th century he was a leadingpersonality in the cultural world of Le Havre...his works can be foundcan be found in the city's museums, including le musée du Havre which which owns a watercolor depicting "le quai Vauban au Havre", and a gouachealso a gouache entitled "l'ancienne poissonnerie duViviers"...On its side the MuMa ( Musée d'Art-Moderne André Malraux ) keeps some portraits of sailors...
