The case contains a document annotated "estate of Gaston de Bonnechose." This likely refers to the member of this Norman family, born in 1867 and died in 1956. He was a descendant of a page to King Louis XVI and nephew of Henri de Bonnechose, a 19th-century cardinal.
The gold is not hallmarked due to the size of the rings but has been tested with a touchstone.
