Nuremberg: 18th-century Solid Silver Sewing Kit. Germany. Knife And Box.
A superb and very complete solid silver sewing kit, made in Nuremberg in the 18th century.
The kit is in its original box, made of green embossed paper with an antique-style design. The interior is lined with beige fabric decorated with metallic trim.
It includes numerous items that make it a very complete set:
A silver chatelaine key
A silver and metal awl
A silver needle case
A pair of silver and metal scissors
A heart-shaped silver box
A silver thimble
A silver sewing ring (?)
A metal tweezers/thread puller
A silver and steel knife
The various items share the same hallmarked decoration.
The key is hallmarked:
The Nuremberg city mark, used during the 18th century
The silver hallmark
Poorly struck maker's mark, to be identified
Each piece was later restamped, probably in the 19th century, with the French hallmark ET for Exemption from Standard.
A very interesting lady's vanity case, remarkable for the number of pieces it comprises and its age. The heart-shaped box is particularly charming, as is the small knife.
15.5 x 8 cm for the case
202.8 grams gross weight for the entire set, including the case
Very good condition. Minor wear consistent with age. The fabric hinge has likely been replaced.
Collection in Paris or shipping via insured Colissimo.
France: €15
Europe: €20
Rest of the world: €35
