JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Samurai half-mask known as a "Mempo" in wrought iron with a glossy black lacquer finish (minor losses). Features a pronounced chin, movable nose, brown horsehair mustache, pierced nostrils, a red lacquered upper lip, and sweat holes under the chin. The interior is also red lacquered (minor losses). A four-tiered "Yodare-kake" (gore) in wrought iron with a glossy black lacquer finish and plum-colored silk braiding is also included, with the reverse side lacquered in glossy black. Dimensions: 22 x 18 x 13 cm. Sold with its stand. Dimensions with stand: 38.5 x 18 x 16 cm.
