SAMURAI ARMOR APRON “HAIDATE KAWARA” OR “HAIDATE”
Japan, Late Edo period (1603-1868)
Silk, iron, lacquer, horn
H: 47.5; W: 30.5cm x 2
The two thickly lined panels feature brown silk embroidered with chrysanthemum flowers on the front, each with twelve lacquered iron plates assembled with iron chain mail. The panels are also decorated with wide polychrome bands with peony motifs.
The backs are covered with midnight blue fabric. The belt has a striped pattern.
Good condition.
