Samurai Half Mask Mempo - Edo Period (1603-1868).
JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Half-mask of a samurai known as a "Mempo," made of brown lacquered wrought iron. Features a pronounced chin, a movable nose, light white horsehair mustache, pierced nostrils, and sweat holes under the chin. The interior is lacquered red. A four-tiered "Yodare-kake" (gore) in brown lacquered wrought iron with blue and orange silk braiding is attached, the reverse of which is lacquered glossy black. Dimensions: 22 x 20 x 11 cm. Dimensions with base: 42 x 20.5 x 16.5 cm.
