JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Shashimono, a white silk battle standard stamped on both sides with a bright red Torii gate design, is sewn with gussets onto a bamboo pole punctuated with black lacquered sections. Very slight wear and pitting. Dimensions: 175 x 71.5 cm. Notes: The Torri clan was based in Mikawa Province (present-day Aichi Prefecture).
