JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Samurai Tanto. Patinated copper kashira, inlaid, gilded, and silvered, decorated with bamboo branches on a textured background. Wooden tsuka covered with purple-dyed stingray skin. Chiseled, patinated, and gilded copper menuki depicting samba dancers. Chiseled, patinated, and gilded copper kozuka depicting a gourd and a dragonfly (symbol of courage) on a matte background; the blade is signed. Black lacquered wood tsuba (naga-maru-gata). Wood and glossy black lacquer saya with ringing and red spots. Simple gilded copper habaki. Straight blade, regular, straight, and well-defined hamon; the tang has one hole; unsigned. Sold with stand. Dimensions: 43 x 5 x 2.5 cm. Blade length including tang: 26 cm.
