Chinese Sword - China, Late 19th/early 20th Century
Chinese Saber - China, late 19th/early 20th century. This rustic saber is notable for retaining its original, traditional lacing around the handle. It has a slightly curved, single-edged blade and a ring pommel. The steel guard features two quillons that curve towards the blade. Dating this rustic saber precisely is difficult, as this type was used during the Taiping Rebellion, the Boxer Rebellion, the Warlord Era, and even the Chinese Civil War and the Second Sino-Japanese War. However, the most common type of saber (dadao) encountered by Chinese troops during the Civil War and the Second Sino-Japanese War had a wider blade, flaring towards the point, and a longer handle for two-handed use. Weight: 830g; Length: 85cm; Blade length: 62cm
