Sri Lankan short saber known as a "kastane" - Ceylon (Sri Lanka), 18th–19th century

Handle made of silver-plated metal with a pommel depicting the head of the traditional lion simha and quillons depicting the heads of the mythical bird serapendiya.

The eyes of the lion’s head are represented by two small, cut red gemstones. 

The blade is of fine quality and has a shape that is quite unique for a kastane. It is a single-edged blade that tapers toward the tip.

The crossguard appears to have been cut in the past and reshaped so that the alteration is not noticeable.

The sword is in good condition, solid, with no play.
