Louis XV Giltwood Wall Barometer, Double Dial, Signed Le Carcano Paris, 18th Century
Important Louis XV giltwood wall barometer with double dial, signed “Le Carcano à Paris”, mid-18th century.
This elegant Parisian scientific instrument is finely carved in wood and entirely gilt with gold leaf. The case displays a rich rocaille decoration typical of the Louis XV period, with finely carved foliage, scrolls and asymmetrical motifs characteristic of Parisian production in the mid-18th century.
The composition is crowned with a finely carved floral bouquet, a decorative feature often found on Parisian barometers of the period.
The instrument features two circular dials:
– an upper thermometer
– a lower barometer
Both dials are signed “Le Carcano à Paris”, a Parisian maker active during the 18th century.
The original gilding shows a beautiful aged patina with minor wear consistent with age. The antique dials remain clear and legible.
This piece is a fine example of a Parisian scientific instrument from the Louis XV period, combining technical precision with elegant decorative design.
Functioning is not guaranteed; the object is offered primarily as a collector’s piece and decorative object.
