Important bronze sculpture with double patina depicting a victorious ancient warrior raising a laurel branch, symbol of triumph and civic virtue.
The figure, armed with a sword and carrying a shield on his back, stands on a richly decorated base featuring military attributes and agricultural symbols, including wheat sheaves and a flag.
The base bears the Latin inscription:
“Virtutes Civicae – Ense et Labore”
(meaning: civic virtues through sword and labor).
The sculpture is signed PICAULT for the French sculptor Émile Louis Picault (1833-1915), well known for his historical and allegorical compositions inspired by classical antiquity.
