Pair Of French Restoration Period Gilt Bronze Candlesticks With Fluted Columns – 19th Century
Elegant pair of gilt bronze candlesticks from the Restoration period, first half of the 19th century.
Each candlestick stands on a triangular base decorated with stylised claw feet and palmette motifs, supporting a fluted column inspired by classical architecture. The nozzle and drip pan feature finely chiselled foliage and gadroon decoration.
The design perfectly illustrates the neoclassical taste inherited from the Empire period and widely used during the Restoration, characterised by architectural forms and decorative motifs inspired by Antiquity.
The triangular base with claw feet combined with the fluted column gives these candlesticks a refined and well-balanced appearance.
Beautiful casting quality and fine chiselling. The original gilding shows an attractive aged patina with natural wear, revealing the bronze tone in places and confirming the authenticity and age of the pieces.
The underside retains its original construction with period fixing system and untreated bronze base, typical of 19th century production.
Highly decorative, these candlesticks can easily complement both classical and contemporary interiors.
