A fine Napoleon III period travel writing slope in ebonized wood, decorated with brass stringing and a central brass cartouche. The lid opens to reveal a writing surface lined with blue velvet. The interior is fitted with compartments for writing accessories such as pens, inkwells and correspondence. The sloping writing surface lifts to reveal additional storage.
The hinges and decorative elements are made of brass. The quality of craftsmanship is typical of French writing slopes from the second half of the 19th century, probably Parisian work.
Good overall condition with light wear consistent with age.
