Stamped TAHAN Fournisseur du Roi Paris
Jean-Pierre-Alexandre Tahan, born in Paris (1813–1892). It was under his leadership that the Tahan firm expanded significantly and became one of the most renowned in Paris. He was one of the appointed cabinetmakers to Napoleon III and, like his father, continued to produce boxes, fitted cases, and caskets; however, he became best known as a specialist in small, exquisite pieces of furniture. He participated in every exhibition from 1849 to 1867, winning a silver medal in 1849, a second-class medal in London in 1852, and a gold medal in 1867. In 1865, at the exhibition organized by the Union Centrale des Beaux-Arts, he received a medal for the extensive and varied range of items on display: luxury cabinetwork, caskets, picture frames, etc. >>>> Article, page 595
