Rare 19th-century Convent Reliquary With Paperolles, Miraculous Virgin And Relics Of Saints

Rare 19th-century convent reliquary with paperolles, featuring at its centre a figure of the Miraculous Virgin in moulded white material, probably biscuit porcelain or composition.

The Virgin is surrounded by a richly symmetrical decoration composed of paperolles, gilt metal threads, beads and small polychrome elements forming flowers, scrolls and radiating motifs. Several relics of saints are arranged in ornate cartouches, still retaining their old handwritten or printed inscriptions.

The whole is preserved under glass within its original carved and gilded wooden frame, with striated and guilloché decoration and a fine antique patina.

The reverse is particularly interesting, retaining its old marbled paper covering as well as several red wax seals, evidence of the reliquary’s old closure. These seals have not been opened or altered.

A fine and highly decorative devotional object, characteristic of 19th-century convent craftsmanship.

Condition: good overall condition considering its age, with wear and minor losses to the frame and reverse, visible in the photographs. The interior composition is well preserved.
