Ancient case or handcrafted reliquary containing a statue of Saint Clare of Assisi and a crucifix. With Saint Francis: The figure wears a brown habit with a drawstring at the waist and a black veil, typical elements of the habit of the Poor Clare nuns, the order founded by Saint Clare.
Context: Saint Clare of Assisi (1193-1253) was one of the first followers of Saint Francis of Assisi and founded the Order of the Poor Ladies, today known as the Order of Saint Clare or the Poor Clares. Her life was dedicated to prayer and evangelical poverty.
Saint Rita is depicted wearing the black habit of the Augustinian nuns.
The presence of roses or dried flowers inside the shrine is a reference to its most famous symbol, the rose.
These objects were often used in the homes of believers as a focal point for prayer and devotion.
