Painted Porcelain Miniature, Madonna Of San Sisto, 19th Century
This object is a vintage miniature depicting the Madonna of San Sisto, the famous Renaissance masterpiece originally painted by Raffaello Sanzio in 1512–1513.The Virgin Mary with the Infant Jesus is depicted in the center, flanked on the left by Pope Saint Sixtus and on the right by Saint Barbara. At the bottom, the two iconic little angels (or cherubs) can be seen resting on the low wall. This is a hand-decorated miniature, crafted on a porcelain plaque. Frame: The oval painting is set within a gilded metal (bronze or brass) inner profile, which is in turn mounted inside a square, ebonized wooden frame with relief decorations in the corners.
