Portrait Of The Comte De Pibrac – Circle Of Rigaud – 18th C.
PRICE RECENTLY ADJUSTED
Fine oil on canvas depicting a presumed portrait of the Comte de Pibrac, French school, early 18th century, attributed to the circle of Hyacinthe Rigaud.
The sitter is portrayed half-length, wearing a richly embroidered aristocratic coat and a long curled powdered wig, in accordance with the formal portrait conventions of the late reign of Louis XIV and the early Regency period. The refined modelling of the face, the subtle transitions in the flesh tones, and the carefully observed rendering of the fabrics place this work within the Parisian workshops active during the first third of the 18th century.
The painting was previously examined and appraised by a French auctioneer, confirming its artistic and historical significance.
It is presented in its antique carved and gilt wooden frame, probably original to the period.
