Model 1833 Boarding Saber
Model 1833 naval sword, known as a "pot spoon" due to the shape of its guard.
Thick blade with a shallow sweep, single fuller, stamped on both sides with a marine anchor. The ricasso bears the star-marked hallmarks B and D. The spine of the blade is engraved "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal." It retains its counter-polished edge.
The wraparound guard is made of sheet metal, entirely painted black with pitch for corrosion protection. Hallmarks are present on the quillon.
The blackened leather scabbard, without padding, has two brass mounts and retains the gusset of the baldric (traditionally, in the navy, leather scabbards were made of black varnished leather).
