Model 1837 Naval Pistol
Model 1837 Naval Pistol of the 1st Type, meaning without a grip strap (a modification later made to reinforce it) and without sights. It is quite difficult to find unmodified 1837 naval pistols, as many broke in combat due to their inherent fragility.
The rear plate is marked "Mre Rle de Tulle," for Manufacture Royale de Tulle, and stamped with the letter L in an oval for Martin Luzier, controller in Tulle from 1820 to 1839.
It has a smoothbore barrel without sights. The breech tang is marked "Mle 1837." The right side of the breech is dated 1842 and stamped with a "C," while the left side is stamped with an "AC" (fire cup). The left side of the barrel is stamped with a crowned "C." It has a stirrup ramrod.
All furniture is stamped with a crowned "C" or an "L." The screws are numbered. The butt cap is stamped with a naval anchor. The stock is made of light walnut.
This weapon is in excellent condition. All the hallmarks are consistent and very fresh.
