Marine Pistol Mle 1842
Rare Marine Model 1842 pistol. This is not a modified Model 1837, but a new built Model 1842 pistol.
The 1837 model, the first percussion pistol adopted by the navy, had defects, which the 1842 model is supposed to correct: reinforced funnel, barrel and specific hammers.
The plate is marked Manufacture Rle de Chatellerault and stamped with the starry D in an oval, of the controller Augustin Deschaseaux, active in Chatellerault from 1839 to 1855.
Tail of the breech engraved Mle 1842. Tonnerre bearing a difficult to read punch.
All the fittings are hallmarked with the starry D in a rectangle by Jean-Baptiste Dombret who worked at the Manufacture from 1830 to 1858.
The cap bears the navy anchor.
This weapon retains very fresh punches.
