This painting bears the label "Exhibition of Contemporary French Art in Japan - 01914," as well as the customs stamp authorizing export.
It has been cleaned of its old, deteriorated varnish and revarnished after repairing some minor losses of paint around the frame. This restoration was perfectly executed by the Rollin Gallery in Rouen. It is presented on its original stretcher.
Charles-François Guérin first studied under Gustave Moreau at the École des Beaux-Arts and quickly became a professor at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, then head of the painting workshop at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, from 1937 to 1939. He exhibited at the Grafton Galleries in London and in Japan. His works are held in numerous French and international museums.
